Today, Horizon BCBSNJ is the state’s largest health insurer proudly serving more than 3.3 million people.  With our pioneer roots, our company continues to be an innovative leader in improving the safety and efficiency of our state’s health care system:

• Promoting electronic prescribing technology to our network physicians to reduce prescription drug errors;
• Providing our network hospitals with state-of-the-art software that acts as a “biological smoke alarm” to reduce hospital-acquired infections; and

The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey has provided over $6 million in grants to over 350 charitable organizations since 2004.  Last year, the Foundation made its largest grant – a five-year, $5 million initiative to support New Jersey’s health centers that provide care to uninsured and underserved populations.

The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey:

On January 1, 2004, The Horizon Foundation commenced operation. Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey created the Foundation to continue its more than 70-year tradition of supporting charitable organizations that enhance our quality of life by promoting health, education, and arts and culture. Horizon BCBSNJ has contributed $25 million to the Foundation.  In its first two years, the Foundation has awarded $2.5 million in grants to over 55 charitable organizations across the state.
