New Fannie Mae Survey Finds Enthusiasm, Caution in Home Buyers
Joe Cutter Reporting
A new survey from mortgage giant Fannie May shows most people still believe home ownership is the American dream of dreams. But after years of foreclosures and housing bubble bursting, they are sadder but wiser.
Almost two in three of those asked by Fannie May still prefer to own a home. New Jersey Association of Realtors President Judy Appleby says most of us understand home ownership is an investment in one's future. But Appleby says prospective buyers who show up these days also tinge their enthusiasm with more caution. She says if they are financially able to do it...if their jobs are secure and they are financially able to do it, then they come out and they look. But Appleby says they are usually crossing 't's' and dotting 'i's' very carefully about their affordability.
Four in ten in the Fannie May survey cited safety as their main buying consideration. One in three said local schools were the deal clincher for them.
