NJ High School Senior Shows Teens Can Make a Difference
Racquel Williams Reporting

A non-profit group called "Teenagers Care" started by a New Jersey teen raises money to aid in the gulf oil spill, specifically to help the thousands of oil soaked wildlife that continue to be effected by the disaster. In fact, it was the sad images of oil soaked pelicans that were barely able to spread their wings that caused President and Founder Matt Pierce to spring into action.
The group has raised over $10,000 thus far, and the 17 year old high school senior who attends Blair Academy in North Jersey, says he intends on expanding the Stone Harbor based organization's involvement to help with disasters world wide, to show that teens do care and can make a difference.
"It's not just going to be about the oil spill, it's going to go on past that. Every other disaster and terrible thing that happens we're going to try to help with fundraising so its not just a one time thing." Pierce said.
Social networking has been a huge help for Teenagers Care, as it has picked up many supporters on Facebook and videos on YouTube have been seeing their fair share of hits. The proceeds are sent to Audubon Societies in oil-affected areas.
"This is really focused on all the animals in the wildlife. It's not like BP, because BP is going to be there now, BP won't be there forever." added Pierce.
